Aspire attend the Woman of the North summit!

Val and Colleen were pleased to attend the Woman of the North summit this month!

The Woman of the North summit was hosted by Health Equity North in partnership with lawyers against injustice Leigh Day and the Northern Health Science Alliance. The event focused on the recent ‘Woman of the North’ report and the creation of a Woman of the North charter.

The summit was opened by Kim McGuinness (Mayor of the North East).

The Woman of the North report highlights the increasing inequality that women have faced in our region over the past decade and a half. The effects of austerity, the cost-of-living crisis, economic stagnation, the pandemic and unequal funding have all hit women living in the North, on average, harder than those in the rest of the country. As a result, women’s health has been neglected, women are more likely to work longer, face greater ill health, be subject to domestic violence and give more unpaid care than men and women in other parts of the country.

The report is a wake up call to all those in positions of power, that to unleash the potential of women in the North is to unleash the potential of the UK.
